Where Thought Meets Form: Exploring the Shift from 2D neurographics to 3D art.

Each piece begins with an intuitive drawing - fluid, interconnected lines that reflect emotion and thought. These sketches then evolve into sculpted glass compositions, where colour, opacity, and form work together to create immersive, multi-dimensional interpretations of the mind’s intricate pathways. This fusion of 2D to 3D captures movement and fluidity, allowing the viewer to experience neurographic art in a tangible and luminous new way.

Neurographic art, developed by Professor Pavel Piskarev, is a transformative creative process that merges free-form lines with subconscious expression, often revealing intricate, organic patterns. Marie Joy takes this concept beyond the flat surface, translating two-dimensional neurographic drawings into dynamic three-dimensional glass forms. Through kiln-forming techniques and a thoughtful exploration of light, transparency, and texture, she brings depth and tactile presence to these expressive designs.

Sunlit is a kiln-pressed glass disc that captures the quiet radiance of early morning light—gentle yet powerful, still yet awakening. Inspired by the emotional clarity that sunlight can bring, this piece embodies warmth, transparency, and subtle movement. Hues were carefully chosen to echo the golden tones of dawn and the soft diffusion of light through mist or memory.

Created through a multi-layered pressing process, the disc fuses color and texture in a way that invites introspection. The folds and layering within the glass speak to emotional depth—rises and dips that reflect both joy and vulnerability. The structure suggests a kind of stillness in motion, like the way sunlight dances across water or filters through leaves.

Technically, Sunlit was composed using five fused layers of hand-cut glass, carefully arranged to allow light to pass through and illuminate from within. The edges are softly contoured, emphasizing flow rather than boundary. It draws on Marie Joy’s exploration of how emotional states—like hope, clarity, or nostalgia—can be visually translated through the play of light, material, and colour.
